March 2006
INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY
On the occasion of the International Women's Day, 8th March 2006, Anne-Marie Spieser addressed a message to female workers with the organisation:
"Today is a very important day, when all over the world the International Day for Women is celebrated. As a woman, I want to congratulate all of you who work in MRCA projects, for the good job you are doing, day by day, under difficult circumstances, for the improvement of the health status of the people of Afghanistan, and especially women and children.
My thoughts are with you every day, and I pray God to help you in the essential work you are doing to build the future of Afghanistan. God bless you."
Anne-Marie Spieser, MRCA President
Three MRCA facilities celebrated the 2006 International Women's Day: Maiwand Hospital in Kabul as well as Mohammad Agha and Pol-e Alam Hospitals in Logar. MRCA female staff then received small gifts such as head scarves from a UNFPA donation. Dr Stanekzai, MRCA General Director, gave his voice to the President's message.
In Logar, the Governor and various provincial authorities attended the celebration, which honored some 120 women. A report was broadcasted in the evening news.
All female staff of the Maiwand hospital were invited to join the RSU celebration, and were awarded a head scarf. The hospital Director and some female participants delivered speeches at the event, which was also reported on national television.
These celebrations were organized by Dr Lailuma, MRCA MCH Officer, and Mr Khalil, in charge of RSU. "According to local people, it was the first time in the history of Logar that we celebrated the International Women's Day", writes Dr Stanekzai in his report.
